Big Cat Safari

This one week safari is a fabulous opportunity to experience wild Africa.  Your accommodation is in exclusive small safari camps and eco-lodges offering comfortable accommodation in private wilderness conservancies.  You will visit Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara, three of Kenya’s classic wildlife parks, aiming to see a wide variety of wildlife species and especially the cats.  All game drives are in custom built 4x4 safari vehicles and not vans.

Lioness hunting

Please note that this safari can be combined with a stay in the capital city Nairobi, other safari experiences in Kenya or a relaxing few days at one of Kenya’s beautiful beach resorts.

Day 1: Nairobi – Selenkay Conservancy
You will be collected from your hotel this morning and you will then be transferred by road to the Selenkay Conservancy on the outskirts of Amboseli National Park.  You will arrive in time for lunch after which you will join an afternoon walk with Maasai warriors to a village where you will be able to learn about their fascinating culture and way of life.  Your accommodation tonight will be at Amboseli Porini Camp.

Amboseli National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 2: Selenkay Conservancy & Amboseli National Park
After an early breakfast you will be driven through the bush into Amboseli National Park.  Amboseli is famous for its big game - elephant, lion cheetah, zebra and giraffe are the main attractions.  The park also enjoys breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is situated in Tanzania, just south of the Kenyan border.  After a picnic lunch you will return to Selenkay for the afternoon.  After an evening game drive and sundowners, you will have dinner at the camp, which will be followed by a night drive to seek out the nocturnal animals.  Your second night will be spent at Amboseli Porini Camp.

Day 3: Selenkay Conservancy – Congreve Conservancy
Today you will go on an early morning game drive in the conservancy.  After breakfast you will be driven to Mbweha Camp, stopping for lunch in Nairobi en route.  Tucked away in the spectacular vastness of the Great Rift Valley on the 6,400 acre Congreve Conservancy on the Delamere Estate, Mbweha Camp is nestled against the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park with views of the Eburu and Mau ranges.  Your accommodation tonight will be at Mbweha Camp

Pelicans and flamingos on the lake

Day 4: Congreve Conservancy & Lake Nakuru National Park
You will have an early morning departure after breakfast for a full day in Lake Nakuru National Park with a picnic lunch.  Set beneath the high cliffs of the eastern Rift Valley and the centrepiece of the national park, this shallow alkaline soda lake is the location of one of the most awe-inspiring wildlife shows on earth.  The lake is home to a staggering concentration of pink flamingos, sometimes numbering more than a million and so many that it is often difficult to see the surface of the lake itself.  You would also expect to see rhino here and there is an excellent chance of sighting leopard.

You will return to camp in the afternoon and after dinner you will take a night game drive in search of leopard and serval.  Your accommodation tonight will again be at Mbweha Camp.

Day 5: Kigio Conservancy – Ol Kinyei Conservancy
After breakfast you will drive back to Nairobi where you enjoy lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant.  After lunch you will fly from Nairobi to Masai Mara from where you will be taken to Mara Porini Camp in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy.  This afternoon you will join a game drive into the surrounding area to see some of the wildlife for which the Mara is famous.  After sundowners and dinner, you will have a night game drive in the conservancy.  Your accommodation tonight will be at Mara Porini Camp.

The annual migration

Day 6: Ol Kinyei Conservancy  & Maasai Mara Reserve
Today you will spend a full day in the game reserve with game drives and a picnic lunch.  During July and August each year, millions of wildebeest and zebra make their annual migration north from Tanzania's Serengeti to the fresh pastures of the Masai Mara, returning to the Serengeti in September and October.  The Mara is also where you can expect to see "the big five" namely lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros.  Many other species of wildlife including a large variety of birdlife should also be spotted.  You will return to Mara Porini Camp in the evening.

Day 7: Ol Kinyei Conservancy – Nairobi
Following a morning game drive and then lunch, you will fly back to Nairobi this afternoon.
