Mara Porini Bush Camp

Mara Porini Camp has recently been set up in the exclusive wildlife conservancy of Ol Kinyei, one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Serengeti-Mara eco-system.  This is pristine wilderness with open savannah plains, riverine forest, springs, streams and rivers, rolling hills and spectacular views across the Mara.

The mess tent at Mara Porini

Ol Kinyei belongs to the local Maasai community who have recently set aside the conservancy as a sanctuary for wildlife and as a result they are directly benefiting from promoting ecotourism.  The majority of the camp staff are Maasai and their involvement in protecting and conserving wildlife means that the conservancy holds a wide variety of the animal species for which the Mara is famous including a large resident pride of lions.  One of the major benefits of viewing animals in a conservation area is that the wildlife is truly wild and behaves more naturally than in the parks where they are habituated to the presence of larger numbers of vehicles.

The camp is located less than 18 kms from the Masai Mara park boundary and is 250 kms from Nairobi by road - a 4 hour journey.  It has its own airstrip for private charter flights and is 16 kms from the Siana airstrip used by daily scheduled flights to the Mara from Nairobi.

In the shade of acacia trees

The camp has 6 guest tents positioned in the shade of yellow-barked acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, a permanent spring within Ol Kinyei.  The tents are spacious and each has an ensuite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower.  The camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests, giving the experience of real camping in the bush in an exclusive private wilderness but with all the comforts required by discerning travellers.  Food is excellent with home baked bread, fresh salads and high quality meals prepared by the camp chef and all meals and a range of drinks are included in the cost of your experience.

Within the Ol Kinyei conservancy you will enjoy morning, evening and night game drives in custom built open sided 4x4s with qualified safari guides experience who share their knowledge of the fauna, flora and people of the surrounding areas.  In the evening, you will relax with a drink whilst watching the sun go down over the Mara and you will then experience the thrill of a night game drive which will give you the opportunity of observing many elusive nocturnal animals.

A natural and peaceful way of experiencing this wilderness area is to join a walk through the conservancy with Maasai warriors who will teach you about the various indigenous animals and plants that are used by the community and how their lives are intertwined with their surroundings.
